The moument to the famous writer Jules Verne on the waterfront of the port of Vigo in Galicia, northwest Spain. Vigo lies near the Portuguese border in the southern part of Galicia known as Rias Baixas (Lower Rias). The Bay of Vigo was the setting for one of the chapters of Verne's famous novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"; he also visited the city after writing the novel. This bronze sculpture from local artist Jose Molares was commissioned to honour the centenary of his death in 2005.
